Wicomico/Potomac Rivers, 7-21-12

When I went out to load the car at 0400, it was pouring down rain. When I met Mo in Annandale at 0430 it was sprinkling. On the way to Chaptico it did it all but we didn't care, we were going fishing.

Our 1st stop was the Chaptico Deli for necessary provisions; egg sandwiches and bread pudding. It must be the water they use down there because these taste gooooood!

We were fishing at 0605....

....and Mo took the skunk off shortly thereafter.

But we hammered the top water for a good 20 minutes looking for a keeper striper but we only received 1 hit. That was disappointing but the day had just begun. A few minutes later I got m 1st one.

Then it started to rain....

....but we didn't care! The weather was nice and we donned the rain jackets (should have done the pants too as we were soaked for the better part of the expedition).

We moved a few times and we caught fish every place we went. Now it was time to see if we could get some keeper stripers at St. Margaret Island

We caught a few WP but no stripers so we went to the south side of the island and started drifting into deeper water. This is when Mo noticed some flips on the water and that started 75 minutes of non stop action.

We caught MANY stripers to 17.5" but NO keepers! Still, it was fun...

Once that settled down, we went to Neal Sound so I could get some gas since I was near empty. It seems that I forgot to fill up before we left....

Anyway, that gave me an excuse to head into the Potomac and up to Swan Point which has always produced great numbers. It did not disappoint but they were not of any bragging size. We kept a few....

We only used 2-3 lures the whole day....take a look at the size of this fish!

4" maybe? Must have been hungry...

At 11:30 we headed over to Quades to eat a crab cake sandwich which was as good as ever!!

Sadly, we heard that George Quade passed away last year, maybe 6-7 months after his mom Alice passed away. Alice was 95!

We then tried a few more spots and caught some more fish. As I mentioned earlier, we caught fish at every stop...except of one, the Cobb Bar Light.

Now it was time to head home, Mo got some nice shots of the deli....

....and where we were.

It had been 2 years since I visited this area....lots of great memories surfaced and we made a few new ones.

Great day!

Great report. I'd rather fish in rain than blistering heat any day.
