Mattawoman

(Late Report) A couple weeks ago my Wife (Julie) decided to come along with Tyler and I to go kayaking at Mattawoman.  Decided to fish the outgoing tide in the afternoon, so it wasn't an early morning.  Put in around 1pm (high tide) and made our way down the creek.  My wife asked for a fishing pole just to try bass fishing for the first time.  So, we gave her a rod with a wacky worm figuring it would keep her busy while the real fisherman fished.  We were wrong!  First cast she catches a nice 5 lber.  She was hooting and hollering not sure what to do.  But she reeled it in all by herself.  She was deservedly pretty proud, but Tyler and I were now in a panic to make sure we caught some fish as well.  She did catch the biggest fish of the trip.  My wife is a bit shy.  So you can picture my beautiful wife behind the grey boxes.

Soon after both Tyler and I caught fish too.

Then Tyler went off on a mission to catch Snakehead.  Julie and I caught a few more small bass and then Tyler came paddling over with a nice 25 inch Snakehead barely fitting in his net.  Unfortunately, I waited too long to take the pic.  He got off as Tyler was trying to take the hook out of his mouth.  We need to get some good solid fish grips because that is the 2nd snakehead that we lost before being able to kill it.  So, Tyler went back on his mission to catch a Snakehead AND get a picture of it.  I think he was getting desperate because this was the best he could do.

I think the thing got his fangs caught in the lure because he wouldn't let go.  Eventually the lure was broken in half and he swam away with a big chunk of plastic in his mouth.

Had a great time and my wife really enjoyed the trip as well.

Re: Mattawoman

Your wife catches a 5 pounder on her 1st cast? Mo's buddy catches a 13" white pech his 1st time out?

What's going on?

BTW, that green OK kayak is a mean fish catching machine!

Re: Mattawoman

Forgot to mention the serious generosity of Ernie to lend us his green fish catching machine kayak.  Tyler quickly snapped that up and lent his to my wife.  He loved your kayak.  Said it was really fast and easy to stand in.

It was my pleasure.....I wish I could stand on it as well but my  2 bionic knees would scream to much on the way up...and down.

Figures. LOL

That's a pretty big snake.  When I was at Pohick last month there were water snakes all over but much smaller.

Re: Mattawoman

I couldn't tell what kind it was.  I figured if it had fangs to catch on the plastic, I didn't want Tyler anywhere near it.

Re: Mattawoman

Thanks Curly.  Tyler read somewhere if the pupils were round it was non-poisonous and if they were not round it was poisonous.  He started trying to get the snake close enough to tell and I told him to stop (OK I yelled at him to stop).  He said it wasn't poisonous, but there is no way I wanted him that close to figure it out.  Glad to know he wasn't really in any danger.
