I bought my kayak around my birthday in February and as the subject indicates, was just able to launch it for the maiden voyage yesterday. With a new house comes great responsibility! haha
Anyhow, with the maiden voyage I figured out a few key things:
1. How to shove the kayak in the tahoe (no roof racks on hybrid) - fortunately it is a one man job
2. How much dust flies in the car from the tailgate being open on gravel roads (jeesh)
3. How smooth and steady it is on the water and how much better it is to not be a shore soldier
I paddled around exploring the cover in between two nasty thunderstorms. There was one to the north and one to the south and both were ominous. After painting all weekend, I deserved to get out and was not going to be thwarted by mother nature.
I landed two small bass on a KVD square bill crankbait in textbook fashion, banging it off of submerged wood. With the confidence that I could retrieve the lures, I through it into some nasty entanglements.
Pic...not worth waiting for....but here it is.

Retriving lures makes my day. I kayaked on Saturday and only lost one because the current was so strong that by the time i went to open the bail I was already broken off. It really made me want to go out and buy one!
Good luck with it. What kind did you get?

I learned if you stuff the kayak all the way in the suburban it breaks the front windshield.
Fascinating ain't it?
