For the last couple of months, I have been bike riding 1-2 days a week with a nice group of folks (2-4 people each ride). We do 15-25 miles at a moderate pace (no racing), usually start from Farmwell MS.
If anyone is interested, let me know and I can send you the ride info as it comes up.

OK....now that the weather is getting nicer, I will ask again.
Any bike riders here? I do know of one (JJ) that just got a bike.
If there is an interest, we can coordinate some rides.

I don't have a bike, but I always thought biking would be a good way to do a float trip if I was by myself. Drop the yak at the put-in, drive to take-out, ride back to yak and hit the water.

now I can lock up my bike at POR Maryland side. Drive up to Lander or Brunswick float down lock up the yak and bike back to the car.

Hmm....upper body workout while paddling, relaxing while fishing and a lower body workout while biking. I need to dust off my hybrid.....

I only have a mountain bike but i might be able to borrow a road bike.

Mountain bike is good for the yakin' trips but a road or hybrid bike is better for a ride. If the docs let me, I may go outside on Saturday and get a ride in!

I got my ride in today...16 1/2 miles.
Man that felt good!

Has anyone done the Point of Rocks bike ride back up to the Landover launch ramp on the tow path? If so, can you tell me the distance and the hills involved in the ride. Having just bought my kayaks late last summer, I've never yet done a float trip and I was wondering if this would be a manageable trip for my first attempt.

Bruce- I take that you mean Lander....
I have not done that by bike but that is a float that a couple of us on here are always willing and able to do. We can just shuttle the yaks when done.

Ernie,
Yes...I meant Lander. It would be a VERY difficult ride to Landover unless I put the bike in the back of my pickup. Anyway, I would really like to do a float trip...so if you have an opportunity to include me, I'd love to try it. Weekdays or weekends all work as I am retired.
Thanks,
Bruce

Hooray! Time to start planning! Tyler and I would love to do a float trip. Tried to last year, but didn't make it happen.

Just out of curiosity, how long does a bike ride of that distance normally take?
Thinking of doing a float on the Rappahannock this year. That water is already warm enough to walk in.

For me, a 60 year old with 2 knees that have been replaced, it can be done in 70 minutes or so on the WO&D or in 80-85 minutes on the streets (have to stop at red lights).

Point of rocks to lander is only 2.5 miles( no hills). The bike ride back is about 15 minutes.
Brunswick is only 4 miles further. Harpers Ferry is 7 more. My wife and I have done that route up and back several times on bike without the float.
The float from lander to point of rocks can take from 1-4hrs depending how you fish it.

Jeff- I take it you need a hybrid or mountain bike......I will assume the trail is not paved.

We don't see many road bikes out there, the trail is dirt but, hard pack and as long as it has not rained I think it would be fine.

Here is our schedule for AV rides:
Mondays- 5:30 PM
Thursdays- 11:00 AM
Saturdays- 8:00 AM
We can add more if folks want that.
All rides will start at Farmwell Middle School, we can meet in the parking lot down near the bike path (WO&D). Please get there a few minutes early so that the group can take off on time.
If you want/need to ride during a different time, let us know as everyone's schedule is different. I am sure there will be many impromptu rides.
This schedule is good until September 15. We can adjust it later.

I have a mountain bike from the mid-80's. Use to do allot of riding when I lived in CA, but now, only occationally & when the wife wants me to join her.

So...you gonna join us?
Most of us do have road bikes but that doesn't mean we are fast.
