Tyler and I celebrated his 16th birthday with a trip to VA Beach to fish for big Redfish with Chad Hoover from Kayakbassfishing.com and Hook1 and Wilderness Systems Kayaks. Tyler started talking to Chad a few months ago and Chad offered to guide us for free for the weekend to celebrate Tyler's birthday. That was VERY nice of him. We followed the line of thunderstorms down on Friday night and didn't get to VA Beach until almost 11pm. Met Chad at 7am on Saturday to head out fishing. Unfortunately the wind was blowing a bit so we decided to hit the more protected area of Rudee's Inlet to see what we could catch. It wasn't too crowded and we found a bunch a Specks near the bridge and in Millionaires Bay (I think that is the name of it). I caught the first couple Specks while Tyler was fishing for Flounder. No love on the Flounder so Tyler joined the hunt for Specks and quickly caught up with me. Not a lot of size, but we were catching them consistently on a red jig head with white paddletail, and having a great time. We each caught about 15 fish.
Really nice boat. Must have been 70ft
Tyler caught his first flounder. Not big, but still his first. It will keep him coming back for more looking for the big ones.
I caught fish too...honest. But I had the camera.
We took a break around 1pm and planned to head over to Kiptopeke to fish for Redfish in the afternoon, but the wind wouldn't cooperate and a line of storms was threatening to move through. So, Chad and Tyler made plans to fish the HRBT at night for big Stripers. After making about 4 trips back and forth across the bridge looking at the Bay and praying for the wind to settle down, they finally gave up around 9pm because there were 4 foot rollers with big chop on the Bay and the Kayaks could never handle that. So, time for bed and plan B on Sunday....
Chad said he had permission to fish a private lake with big bass that we could go to without worrying about the wind. Sounded good to us! AND IT WAS! We drove about an hour out of VA Beach, drove down a dirt road and ended up on this beautiful, very fishy looking lake
And even better, we were fishing topwater frogs all day. I love having big fish explode on topwater frogs! The fish loved these things
After getting a feel for the lake we caught three 5lb+ fish within 20 minutes. During that time, I got the biggest at about 6lbs+
Later, Tyler caught this FAT monster that had to be pushing 7lbs
Chad got out the really good camera and was able to capture Tyler catching this one
Here are a couple more
Chad won the "Baitfish" award!
It was an outstanding weekend even if the weather didn't cooperate and we didn't get to fish for Redfish. That will keep us coming back for more! Chad was awesome to hang with and to help guide us. He is a Navy guy who is retiring and following his dream with the website (www.kayakbassfishing.com) and Hook1 products (www.kayakfishinggear.com).

That is a heck of a report, and some really fantastic pics! Too bad the redfish and striper trips didn't work out but it looks like you more than made up for it. That little lake looks awesome, nothing better than a frog bite.
You should think about going back to VB in the Fall. The speck bite really heats up in October and November.

The lake was really amazing. Tyler was really kicking bass butt there. My bet is that 7lber he caught was over 7 and definitely the biggest of the day.
Now I am scouring Google Earth to find a lake like that near us.
