4-14-12, Potomac River report

Mo and his BIL Mike met me at 0645 for a day of bass fishing on the Potomac.

Mike Rhea lives in Wisconsin and had never caught a LMB before.....nothing like a little pressure to start the day!

We put in at Pohick where we met Kevin (nice 19' Hydra Sport CC) who has been doing well with stripers. Of course, I brought no striper gear so we bid good bye and went our separate ways. BTW, he and his buddy Tony had a great day with the stripers. They caught many and one that was close to 30 pounds!!

So on to the river we went. It was a little chily at 1st but not too bad.

The 1st place we fished looked good and we had 5-6 other boats in the hood but we found no love. On a hunch from Mo, we went to where we caught a few 2 weeks ago and sure enough, Mo took the skunk off the boat.

He caught it on a chatterbait, his new favorite lure since Mike Luparello turned him on to it 2 weeks ago.

I was using a Spike It stick bait when I felt a tic and set the hook on a nice fish. I had a good fight on my hands......

.....but it was not a bass but a friendly channel cat. Nevertheless, 2 skunks removed. Now we needed to get Mike on a fish.

But not before mo struck again!

We made a few moves that we no good but Mike got to see part of our great river. We also got a call from Kevin telling us that they got hot right after we left. We were fishing two different styles but i was hopeful that we could pick up a striper. not to be with the tackle we had. But i will be back for them convicts!

When we came back to the "productive" spot, I told Mike that we should change his lure from a chatterbait to a spinnerbait. That was a good move and Mike saw the bass come up to take his bait...

Now that is a happy camper! This fish was close to 4 pounds. Mike deserves another picture!

The fishing was a bit slow....we saw lots of other bass boats catching one here and one there. The wind picked up and we headed back in to the shallows of Pohick but we got no action so we called it a day. A good day!

Time to go fishin' again!
