The plan was to meet Dan and Taylor at the normal spot at 0600. But not all plans come together all the time......Dan will explain.
We got on the water at 0815 and made it out past the breakwater. The bay looked OK so we decided to make a run for the other side to chase down some stripers.....about a third of the way there, the waves seemed bigger and the wind seemed stronger. The were calling for building seas so I made the call to abort and maybe try a new WP spot.
Looked great but we did not get a WP so we went back in to Deale Harbor and attacked the wall. As he does most of the time, Dan took the skunk off the boat.
I followed with a nice 11.25" WP which put me on the board for the 2 month long SRRKC WP Tourney.
All that fish does ids put me on the board. Tough rules....minimum size is 11 inches!!
Dan and I kept catching and keeping some 10"+ fish as Dan wanted some for a fish fry tomorrow. We ended up keeping 13-14 WP over 10"!!
Catching WP ain't easy when the bite is slow and subtle as it was today (and has been lately). These fish are well fed to say the least! Taylor finally got on the board and took his salty WP skunk off!
As we were fishing I was admiring some of the boats, especially this one. My, that looks familiar! Sure did, it was Carl and Jeff in the 24', 300HP Everglades.
Sweet boat! They had been out Live Lining for stripers and were coming in to clean fish! Double sweet! I was telling Carl that we were going to make the run in the AM but backed out and all he says was, "wrong boat". I agree....
We chatted for a bit and then we continued to chase the WP. I caught this one while barely moving my lure....a footer!
Then towards the end, Taylor calls for the net and lands a nice 11.5" WP!
Then he declared that he heard some thunder so we called it a day. I think he heard his stomach growling since we had decided to hit Ledo's on the way home.....
It did get boomy out there so I was glad we got off the water.
Great day all around!!

Ernie,
It was good seeing you out there. You certainly have the WP figured out.
We cleaned three nice stripers and about a dozen spots. I fried the spots for an appetizer using Carl's Lime and caper sauce for dipping, and grilled a nice striper filet for dinner. Time for a nap...

Ernie, Thanks for the kind words. Sure was terrific seeing you out there with those youngsters. We had a very fun day, and a fishing success. Last Saturday I was out live lining as well. Put some Rockfish in the boat for dinner. I had 20 knot winds & 5-6 foot seas on the way back to Deale. It was a lumpy ride, but no worries. Trimmed the Everglades bow down, and just cut through the chop at 35 mph. When are yiu gonna phone me so I can take those boys out for a Rockfish trip? And, oh by the way, Taylor, you need a net for a 12 inch WP? Jeff & I bob for them like bobbing for apples.
Cheers!

I was making him net my fish since I was using only 4 lb line and they count for a contest that I am. He just followed suit.....

My punctuality streak is RUINED!!!!! I'm just glad Ernie waited. Other fisherman would have continued with the plan and gone fishing without me!

Deale is the closest spot to the bay....about 70 miles from Ashburn Village.
I wish it was closer though....

Ernie is certianly a gracious fishing partner. He never seems to get rattled when things don't go to "the plan". Many trips I've been with him and he just rolls with it......hole in boat, dead truck alternator, or stern plug in the wrong hole (I've been with him twice in a "sinking boat" and it always works out).

Ernie, I forgot but Taylor wanted me to thank you again. He had a great time. Believe it or not, as a new fisherman, that was one of his more successful trips. He also said he had fun riding in a boat that he didn't feel was going to tip over. I think he might be a little bigger than the recommended size for my little 10ft jon.
