Bay report, Day 2, 7-24-11

Carl Brown just picked up his new Everglades 243 w/ a 300 HP Yammie 4 stroke....to say that this is a nice boat is a complete understatement! Curly and I met up with Carl and Jeff Palmer in Deale at 1:30 PM.

We only had 3 hours to visit a few spots and to see if we could catch a few fish (and show him some of the area).

We went straight out to BWP and saw that we had some current so we tried for stripers and/or specs. Less than a minute in to the casting, Curly nailed a nice 10 inch perch! A few minutes later he lands this nice 12 incher....

I followed suit with a decent chunk WP on a 4 1/2" pearl Case Jack Worm. A perfect imitation for a silver side! But no one would take my pic....

After those three fish we decided to move since we saw some darkness to our north. We headed SE towards the western shore....just in case. Along the way, a few birds are spotted so we slowed down and notice some small breaking fish. We stopped and we caught some schoolie stripers!

All of us got in the fray....

We actually left them snappin' because Carl wanted to get back....

....to the  Boatel. Man this boat can fly!

We parked the beast and up she went to dry dock for a few days.....

Great to get out on such a fine piece of machinery with a great crew. Mission accomplished as we put the 1st WP and striper in the boat.....even got some fish poop on the deck!

Nice boat. Needs some stickers on it. I always cringe when I see a sweet boat up on those lifts. I bet Carl watched it all the way to barn.

So is he going do some catfish on it?

Ernie...Thanks for a great first fishing trip on my new boat! Looking forward to many more. BTW, I had the temporary registration in my wallet. Waiting for the stickers to arrive in the mail. Mike, Catfishing?...Absolutely!

That Everglades is probably one of the nicest 24 footers on the water.  Gorgeous boat!!  And a nice successful first day fishing it too!  I was out with Ernie the day before and we couldn't find any of those schoolies.  Nice fish and congrats on the boat.

Re: Bay report, Day 2, 7-24-11

Everglades two things I also noticed was the pass thru ports on the hull. What are they used for? Only reason I ask is it is the number one source of taking on water on older boats. A log or other debris hits them and they crack or dislodge.

Should be no worries since most new boats have two bildge pumps that far exceed the amount of water that could enter thru those ports. Older boats are the worry as sometimes bildge pumps do not work.

Capt Mike,

re: your question about pass thru ports on the hull.....one is for the forward live well / fish box. 75 gallon capacity in the deck forward of the console, that can be either dry, or filled ...used to cull big fish. Other one is for the 35 gallon bait well / live well aft. Both have pump-outs & both hull fittings are made of solid brass.

BTW, the Germans didn't bomb Pearl Harbor. It was our Japanese buddies.

Wondered if anyone was going to catch that tongue .

Hey Carl - what a great boat and I'd be glad to accompany you again if you need to fill a seat.  Hope you didn't need a transfusion later, after all those files bled you down wink .

In Capt Mike's defense, that was probably a bit of schtick. Like, does a bear sh*t in the woods? Does the Pope wear a white hat?!

Or as I like to say, does a bear wear a white hat? Does the Pope sh*t in the woods?! lollollol

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

Capt Mike was referencing a classic line from Animal House....
