4-5-08, Beaverdam Reservoir report!

Another successful outing... lost a couple of 3lbrs. on short strikes to a spook and a crank... managed to catch two fish on a spinnerbait... and found a big striper dead on the bank... didn't look like it had been caught but no way to really tell... it's good to know that they still exist here... thought i saw a 8" striper back in Feb. but i convinced myself it was some type of perch... maybe not... how great if they actually spawned some offspring

beaverdam is currently my favorite place to fish locally (non-river)

This is a GREAT report!!

That's too bad about the striper but glad they are in there. They are not supposed to spawn in fresh water lakes but who knows. You guys have this placed figured out. Time to take the yak out there one day!

Re: 4-5-08, Beaverdam Reservoir report!

it really varies from day to day and location... i've caught big bass on spooks, swimbaits, crankbaits, senkos, jigs and spinnerbaits so i can't say there is one good choice...  it's all relative to the conditions that day(sun, clouds, wind, fronts)

jigs are a great place to start but the place is a jig eating machine so you can't get too frustrated... the big bass relate to big rocks in key locations so you have to put those jigs in jeopardy to catch em

if you are hitting lots of rock on the bottom with any bait you are in a pretty good spot... thats a good rule of thumb at this body of water

That's what I was looking for.  Obviously time and conditions dictate the bait.  It seems the rock piles hold the biggest fish.  Thanks for the heads up.

I went to the reservoir on Saturday for nine hours and only caught a 12inch 2 pound crappie.  It was huge for a crappie but I really wanted a bass.

Charlie,

Plan B (Brian) has that place dialed in. We are working on getting a date where we can all go and he can teach us the place. I used to fish it many years ago but never really had much success. Like anything else, you have to put the ime in and imagine where they may be hiding!

Re: 4-5-08, Beaverdam Reservoir report!

ok... so here is some damage i did in about 3 hours today... would have had a bag well  over 14 lbs. had i managed to not let a 4-5 lbr. throw a wacky rig on me early on... but it was still a great day... def had a battle with the ticks so i highly recommend taking extra precautions if you want to venture... lots of DEER TICKS!!!!  Had my light colored pants tucked into my boots and my shirt tucked in with a rain jacket over top... no ticks above my waist but i probably flicked close to 20 deer ticks off my pants which is no fun
