After a few minor logistics issues, Dan Stroup, Kent Williams and I put in at Leesylvania State Park so that we could run over to the Mattawoman Creek to look for some clean water. To say that the river is dirty is an understatement. It was like walking through a mine field.
But we got over to our spot and by 0810, we had our 1st fish of the day on!
And then another....
And then another
And then another....
Kent and I each have two on the books!
I then got a slight bump so I decided to set the hook and up came this 4.2lb beauty!
And then this one which went 2.9 lbs....
Now I begin to wonder if I can get a nice "bag" for the day.
Kent caught one more but Dan is still not on the books yet....
To be fair, I had him running the trolling motor while I chilled in the back. So we switched up and put one in the boat!
I had a good lead on him....maybe this would be my day!
At one point I glanced over my shoulder after we heard some sirens and "smoke showing"!
It was a fire drill but it was impressive!
We continued to catch fish and my hope for a nice bag was becoming a reality!
But my race with Dan was getting closer as he started to hammer them on his comeback!
At the end, Kent ended up with 3 bass, Dan caught 7 and I caught 8 with the best five totaling 13.7lbs.....my biggest Potomac river 5 fish total ever!
Earlier in the AM, Kent got a call from our buddy Kyle who loves to fish the Potomac. He had stayed home thinking that the river was a mess. It was.....but the creek was fine! Anyway, we told him to high tail it down and he showed up at 11:30.
Talk about a sweet boat!
Most of the fish were caught on soft plastics, however, Dan caught a few on his favorite spinnerbait.
We had a great day and I was very fortunate to have a great crew on board to enjoy it!

Ernie,
Miles and Trent were on the boat today at Belle Haven with me. Miles was tossing this crazy spoon fly he came up with and hooked into a nice largemouth. The fish had black spots on its tail like the above pictured. It also had two perfectly round black spots on its left dorsal side.

It has been said that some Potomac River bass have developed this trait. We have some like that in our ponds. No clue how they got in there.....
