Alas....no days off to get there. Getting up there on a Saturday's can be a zoo if the crew races are on.

My dad and I are thinking about taking a trip up there with the yaks soon. We have never really fished the potomac before i am looking to fish for stripers, shad, perch, LMB, smallmouth bass stuff like that. Do you have any suggestions for types of bait/lures and the sorts of places to fish for these (rocks, current breaks, ledges) by fletchers and time of day? I really want to catch a striper but i will go for the others to.

It depends when you go.....if you launch from Fletcher's (wear a PFD at ALL times), you can get a bunch of species.
Shad darts for shad
Double Bottom rigs (2-3-4 oz) for white perch
Single bottom rigs (2-3-4 oz) with cut bait for cats and stripers.
You can cast at rocks, ledges, eddies etc for smallies, largies and stripers.
There is lots of water....need to read it.
The Rebel Jointed Spoonbill will catch stripers (dives 8-10 feet).
The cove is 12-25' deep but other areas nearby are deeper....
Go to the Fletcher's website for more info as well as looking back at the many April and May posts by Pacemaker, Curly, Jumping Jasper, Carl etc etc.

Dunk fresh herring (live and cut) on bottom rigs for stripers now!

I heard spears and cast nets work good.
The fact thats it's ilegal doesn't bother some.

thanks for all the info!! one last question. I was looking at the depth charts and there are 5 foot areas and 65 foot areas around fletchers. How deep would you recommend for mainly striper but catfish too?

20-30'

Well.....Fletcher's is not fishable any more....it will be a while before there is another window and the spring game will be over by then.
This morning, the river looked like chocolate milk with sprinkles (flotsam).
Suprisingly, while the Washington Channel is high, it looks very fishable.
