Got this from the Fly board....I guess VA does not want visitors to fish in our waters.
Please check these links and take a look and offer your comments to VDGIF on this issue.

Doesn't Maryland charge non-residents based on how much their home state charges MD residents? So this would affect VA residents who want to fish MD freshwater?

This is just dumb! I believe that there needs to be some fees so that our fisheries can be properly managed, but these prices are getting ridiculous.

Yep....BTW, PA is $54 for out of staters. That's hefty which is why I fished 3 times up there to get my money's worth. of course, I fished w/Shindler (guide ) each time so my out of pocket was huge! But.....catching to over 19 inchers takes all the worry away....

Let's hope DC doesn't get any ideas! $13/year for non-residents is a deal!

PA hunting licenses are ridiculous too. It's over $100 for nonresidents for ONE buck.

If VA raises the non resident to $85 it will cost the VA guys $85 to leave Goose Creek or fish from Algonkian. I don't see this as helping any of us. Does anyone know if the old Potomac River license still exists?

Except for DC you can fish the Potomac with a Virginia Licence. No need to buy a MD license

Far be it from me to doubt anything on a forum, but I just had to check this one. Turns out you're correct ( I figured you would be). For anyone interested, residents of VA or WVA holding a resident fresh water license in their state can legally fish the MAIN STEM of the Potomac which is adjacent to their state. Basically, if VA raises the rate I wont be fishing Goose Cr any more.

Paddle fast to the main stem after you put in at Kephart!

in all my years i have only been checked for a license one time, at BDR in '09.
i recognize the state is desperate for revenue ( who isnt? )
i have to wonder at what point will exhorbitant fees - either passively or actively- tip individuals toward
" taking the chance" , or even begin to simmer outright contempt for the law...

Im not against this actually with the raised cost it could possibly keep the some of the poachers from getting licensed, although I sure most of them aren't anyways. And maybe DNR will enforce and check license more often, If it keeps even a percentage of the bucket brigade away I'll pay more

Yeap, it was a Sunday in January and 60 degrees. It was a very mild winter that year and stripers hung around all winter. Caught a ton of stripers that day.............when I wasn't being boarded by the DC Harbor Patrol and Coast Guard.
