Re: Avatar...

Ernie, see if you can change the avatar size limit in the forum settings. Most phpbb forums allow you to change that setting.

If you can't do that, send it to me and I'll see if I can resize it and save it at a lower quality.

Re: Avatar...

Dan,

This is where it is at and what it recomends:

Use avatars -                  Yes, When enabled, users will be able to upload an avatar which will be displayed under their title/rank.
Upload directory-           The upload directory for avatars (relative to the PunBB root directory). PHP must have write permissions to this directory.
Max width (set at 90)-      The maximum allowed width of avatars in pixels (60 is recommended).
Max height (set at 90)-     The maximum allowed height of avatars in pixels (60 is recommended).
Max size- (set at 10240)-  The maximum allowed size of avatars in bytes (10240 is recommended).

Re: Avatar...

change the "Max Size" to make it substantially larger. A typical size limit for avatars is 150kb.

with a forum this size it shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Avatar...

Much easier to resize his file using the "Paint" program found under the accessories tab of your desktop.  Increasing the avatar size on the forum will also limit the actual size of the text on a page.  The bigger the avatar, the more left margin is lost!  Look at some of the problems with avatars on the PRAC Board that allows huge avatars.

Re: Avatar...

Paint did not let me get this particular image below 13kb and it needed to go to 10kb. Dan worked it last night so I will try tonight. I barely increased the size of the avatar so let's see what happens.

???  10kb is huge for an avatar!  Mine on the left side there is 3.5 kb and excellent resolution.  Ernie - email me his pic and I will fix it for you..............Curly

Re: Avatar...

I can also resize it for you guys if needed. I just did mine in paint, but I have other more robust tools as well.

Re: Avatar...

The one I sent to Ernie has been resized to <10kbs.

Changing the allowed file size will not affect anything except making it easier to use avatars that have more detail.

Changing the avatar width and height size might not affect the forum tables at all. There is plenty of spare room in username column right now, as long as you don't exceed the width of that table, it is entirely possible that the text won't be affected at all...it depends on the coding of the forum.
