3-28-08, Fletcher's fishing report

We had a flotilla go out of Gravelly Point this morning! Curly was on his boat out with Matt.....

..... and Jeff English was on his boat with Charlie Smith. On my boat, I had Doug Errett and John Lipetz on board.

The idea was to spread out on the river and cover as much water as we could but Fletcher's has a magnetic field that drew us all in to the same place.

We started by fishing the flats near Reagan Airport while the other 2 boats made a bee line to Fletcher's.

The 1st fish of the day was reported by Jeff and it was a whopper! He landed a 40" rockfish! Pictures will be posted Monday. It turns out that was their only fish of the day. But....WHAT A FISH!!! Congrats!!

I know that Curly caught several blue cats and hopefuly, we will see some pictures soon.

We also ran in to a good friend, Doug Policansky who had rented one of Fletcher's row boats.

On my boat, we fished three different styles; Dog was fly fishing for shad, John was spin fishing for shad and I was using the sibiki rig just to catch anything! I also had one rod out with a jig  with Gulp! to see if we could entice a blue cat to hit.

Well....none of that worked until I felt a little teeny tug and was able to land this nice white perch......

It WAS nice.....it took the skunk off the boat!! But that was it for the day, no more fish and not even another bite.

The weather was spectacular, the water was fairly clear, it was partly sunny with a touch of breeze and the temps got up to the low 70s....on March 28!! You gotta love it!

It was a great day indeed!

It measured 38" and put up a great fight.

This is Chuck from Michigan holding the same fish. He held the rod while I grabbed the fish with my hands after we found out the net we had was to small.

It was a great day on the water. I can't wait to get my truck fixed and get back out there.
