Any of the tidal creeks/coves of the Potomac. Low tide is easiest. Throw Spro frogs over the top of the matted vegetation and algae

Are you guys planning on hinting snakehead this weekend? I might be interested in joining you guys..
Here is something Ernie posted a while back on where and how to target these bad boys:
While these fish are not easy to catch, they do like shallow, murky water (slow & muddy streams). The also like weeds such as hydrilla that's near spatterdock. Like bass, they like wood (trees, docks etc)...throw bass type lures that are weed less due to the habitat.
The prime areas are:
Little Hunting Creek
Dogue Creek
Pohick Bay
One of the stories that he told was of a man who called in ('06) and reported catching nine of them. He was surprised at how many the guy caught so he called him only to find out the number was 90! That was in Dogue Creek and the guy was netting them! It seems they all had run up creek for some reason.
Snakeheads slurp air just like a turtle does so they can be "sight" fished.

I am not sure if a trip was planned or not, but I think I am going to go to the potomac on my yak to try and catch one. Not sure where I want to go yet. Low tide will be at 10 30 which is when they are supposed to bite best.

Since they are not in the upper potomac, where do you think would the closest place to target them be? Would that be Pohick Bay?
It would be nice if some of these places weren't so far from Ashburn

They are at Fletcher's but I don't think they are caught as commonly as in the shallow weed filled creeks. They can be caught in Alexandria and south of Alexandria which would probably be closer than Pohick.

Target grass not wood this time of year, early when there isn't grass they will take up residence under over hanging cover like docks and wood but once the spatterdocks grow they will cruise those then leave those entirely for hydrilla and mill-foil. Look for courting pairs or depressions or openings in the hydrilla as a pair with fry may have taken residence. Also be on the look out for bubbling water or orange clouds of fry as the parents will be close by and will fiercely defend their young. Good luck to those that go out!
