We are on the other side of the world!
Rob Allen, George Lenard and I fished with Capt. Kevin Josenhans this afternoon. We were almost directly across the tip of the Northern Neck.
As it sometimes happens, we were greeted with 20+kt winds which made things....not so comfortable in open water. As we put in, another charter was coming in with a skunk.....yikes! But our guide knows these waters and we were able to fish a few nice areas.
Mostly we fished jigs and caught stripers to 25" and croakers to 17"! Rob and George each caught 8 fish, I lagged behind with 5 (3 croakers). The croakers were nice and fat.....better fighters than the convict bass.
Rob caught a nice one on top as the sun went down. I also hooked in to one on top but he took me deep into the structure and popped off.
We will be back at it in the AM....pictures at 11!

So here is the rest of the story from the Friday PM trip. Rob and George at the ready!
Rob takes the skunk off the boat......
.....and is immediately followed by George!
And then Rob again....
....and again!
Rob and George were using Specialized Baits L'il Jimy's...they are deadly!
I finally get on the board with this nice croaker....
....and this nice striper!
Finally, time to head on back so we can get ready for the AM trip!

Day 2, Saturday AM trip!
At 0500, we were at Gordon's Diner for some good ole greasy breakfast fixins! This place should be on the Food Network! At 0530, we met our Captain and off we went....
Breathtaking....worth the price of admission!
Our target was top water action!
As always, Rob got us started with a very nice early AM striper!
We were communicating with these guys all day....maybe Rob can explain!
I nailed a nice one (tagged fish too) on top!
Then we went off to the middle of the bay to fish the remains of some target ships!
The blues obliged us!!
The fishing was slow after our very fine morning of top water fishing (we caught 12 keeper plus sized fish)! We did see some blues come up and we landed a dozen and had about the same number come off as "safe releases". They are a blast on light tackle.
On the way home, we went back to the honey hole and caught a few more stripers to give us 15 for the day. Did I say anything about how much we enjoyed fishing with Kevin? I am sure we will be on his boat again in the near future. He is very knowledgeable and a pleasure to fish with!
As we were leaving, we spotted a boat in a lot that looked VERY familiar!
I had one that looked just like that......we almost sunk at the CBBT in Dec. '06!

Sounds like a great two day trip. That sand bar really looks fishy.

Ernie -
Always a great trip with you - you have so much enthusiasm and optimism. George is a heckuva fishing partner as well -
You really covered the trip well with those fantastict photos -
I loved the one at the dock from Friday with the wind blowing my shirt making me look like my former self - HAHA! -
The birds really chatted and kept us company - I swear some of the sounds they make sound human-like - I was fascinated. Good trip - Great Captain -
Would love to see the place in late September/Early October.

Doug- We did two long 1/2 days with Capt. Kevin. He has worked on the water (DNR, Parks Service) most of his life so he really knows that place. That sand bar was alive with bird sounds and the fish cooperated most of the time. These were good quality fish....we only caught 1-2 that were undersized, most in the 20's! That place is like the sound at the Outer Banks....except there are very few people. We hardly ever saw another fishing boat.
Rob- I can definitely fish with Kevin again.....I will start mulling a strategy! I can see fishing Tangier sound one day and maybe the Little Chop or another body the next. We can then stay in a regular motel with regular beds!
