Goose Creek Wade - 07/24/10
I decided the only way to fish in this heat was to wade, so I headed down to Kipheart Landing and waded out in Goose Creek. In a couple of spots I got waste deep and it was amazing to feel the difference in water temperature.
I tossed a jig and craw trailer for the most part and landed two smallies including a solid 13in smallie with nice marks. The other fish was about 10in. I fished for about 2 hours and enjoyed the wade.
If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

I strongly recommend it in this heat...you don't get (or feel) dehydrated and you can really enjoy and focus on the fishing.
If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

Definitely. It is also much more peaceful to me. When I started fishing I was going on wade trips to the Shenandoah and other places. I used to drive an hour and a half to go wade all day in 100 degree heat by myself. For some reason I haven't been able to find that same determination in the past couple years.

It's really not that much shorter for me to go to Leesburg instead of Fredericksburg. Besides, my old spots used to crush Goose Creek in terms of catching and they are much more secluded.

Sorry if I'm threadjacking but since we are on the subject of wading. Here are a couple of photos from my wade back in early June on the Rapidan. Nothing really big was pulled from this wade, just a bunch of tiny smallies. Good times, though.

That's the spot I'm talking about Andy, well at least the general area. When I told Jay about it he got confused and went upstream instead of down.

coz: did you wade up or down stream from kep?
what is cool about low water is the 'invisible' smallies that ambush your baits
light tackle makes for great sport
somewhere around here is a post by jeff english, where he & curly got a 3 or 4#'r ,on 4# line, last year fishing the goose

The best way to describe it is as such: I walked down the path and fished to the right of Kephart. Goose Creek flows north, so I don't know if that would qualify as up or down stream! 
I was using light flourocarbon line (6-8lb) and as you said, those smallies are invisible. All I could do was look for my line to move as I rarely felt the bites.
If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

Ah, makes sense. As we were leaving some local guy told us it's much better down stream.

Yes, I always told him that but he never listened. I think he saw the shallow area just downstream from the ramp and it discouraged him from trying downstream like I advised. That long flat area ends at the next bend and it's good from that point on all the way down to the confluence.

It's a good thing he doesn't go downstream and invite everyone publicly on the internet though...that's the kind of thing that ruins a spot...
