6-10-10, Chicahominy River report

I fished the "Chick" today for the 1st time. Charlie Taylor had me aboard his Bumble Bee bass boat to prefish the NHBA tourney.

We left NoVA at 0615 and got to Greentop shortly after 8. One must always stop there.

OK. now the fishing....we put at Chicahominy State Park (at the mouth where it comes in to the James) and started fishing creeks and cypres trees...very cool.

Charlie caught all the bass (9 of them, 4-5 which were keeper size) along with a very nice yellow perch and a blue cat.

I caught 3 bass, 2 white perch, a yellow perch and a blue cat that smacked my spinner bait.

Most of the bigger fish that Charlie caught were on a Brush Hog but we caught a few on spinner baits.

We quit around 5 pm and headed over to Pierce's BBQ for dinner. Great way to end a great day on the water.

This river is a beautiful place to fish.

Pictures next week!

Here are some of the areas we fished on Friday.

As mentioned, it was near the mouth of the "Chick" as it goes into the James River.

We were 30 miles below from where we would be launching on Sunday so while this was "pre tourney" fishing, we were not coming down that far on tourney day.

This is a beautiful river to say the least.

It was....almost took it back to the motel to eat it but we were short on utensils and cooking instruments.
