Dragon 6/6

First trip to the Piank for me this year. We were on the water by 9 and drove straight to the back of the Dragon as far as we could go. Over, around and through various laydowns we went, effectively trapping ourselves in the belly of the beast until the tide came back up. Seeing as we were stranded back there for six hours with nothing but a bunch of fishing poles, we made the best of our time by catching the heck out of some bass, bowfin and pickerel.

We caught them pretty much at will for the duration of the outgoing tide with floating worms, plastic frogs, crankbaits and buzzers. At low tide we switched to texas-rigged plastics and caught a bunch more. Once the water started coming up again they finally shut off on us. Most fish came around shady cover near the bends and the mouths of the cuts. Finally around dinner time a small storm cell blew through and chased us off the water.

We ended the day with 10-20 bass each, most of which were 2lbs or less. I caught 4 or 5 nice-sized bowfins well. One friend of mine had a nice 5 lb bass and an enormous bowfin on a buzzbait, both of which came off before being boated. I had some big bass blow up on my horny toad as well, but just couldn't get them in. Despite our big misses, we all had a blast down there and we're all looking forward to doing it again soon.
