Cedar Report - 06/03/10

I fished Cedar yesterday despite the algae and did okay. I ended up with 4 total with the biggest going 15in and about 1.5lbs. I was successful slowly swimming a gambler cane toad on the outside edge of the algae. I also caught a bullfrog. As I was going to take a picture, he jumped off. Oh well. No photo of the frog.

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

I fished it this morning before I head to Harrisonburg for the State Track Meet today.  Used a mouse and had many hits by dinks, but only managed a 1.5 punk.

I think we need to redefine punks.....a 1.5 lb fish is a decent fish, especially on light tackle or fly!

OK, for me..........

Dink = less than 1 pound
Punk = between 1-2 pounds
Keeper = 2-6 pounds
Lunker = 6-9.9 pounds
Trophy = 10 pounds or more

I call redo! We should refine the language.

In VA, a Trophy (citation) is 8 lbs and 22".

Fine...........I'll give in to that, but Dink and Punk remain.  Keeper, Lunker, and Trophy are adjusted. big_smile

Dink = less than 1 pound
Punk = between 1-2 pounds
Keeper = 2-5 pounds
Lunker = 5-7.9 pounds
Trophy = 8 pounds or more

Re: Cedar Report - 06/03/10

What about 5" fish ( I catch them all the time on a fly)....same as an 15oz dink? I think not!!

A 1-2 pound fish is a nice fish....keep rethinking!!!! I need some help out there!

Re: Cedar Report - 06/03/10

i am pleased w/ a 1# fish
2# is pretty good
3# is getting much better
4# and over is really nice
5# and above is exceptional

depending on the amount of time on the water, a few 5# fish a year is more than a lot of good fishermen get

i know some very good tournament sticks that struggle for a 15# limit
12# is average- some get skunked
15 to 20 pounds on the river usually gets you a check

we had an NHBA tournament last year where 12# was a winner

rick clunn was asked what he felt was the biggest obstacle to enjoying fishing.
he replied: unreasonable expectations

Leave it to Jeffie....classic response!

Lots of NHBA tourneys are won with 10 to 16 lb limits.

I am not trying to be controversial, but here is my thought.
Using negative terms to describe your catch or saying I didn’t catch anything worthwhile, detracts and downgrades the perception of your outing. Just a few posts ago everyone was taking about how there is more to fishing then the catch. We are all blessed to be able to spend time outdoors and do what we love.

BTW it hurts the fishes feelings when you call them names.

Sounds like some tree hugger fringe group. Think of how Curly must feel when his valuable moments fishing are taken up by runts and punks.

Do you prefer self addressed stamped envelopes for returned responses? Are donations tax deductible?! lol
