Carl, Mo, and I met at Carl's house at o'dark (no, it was not even o'dark:thirty) and departed for the Wicomico. Carl planned it so we could fish the end of the outgoing tide which is the best time to fish the current created by the emptying lagoon and sandbar. We started fishing at the lagoon with striper gear, hoping to put a few in the boat before the sun got too high and the current stopped. Mo started off by catching a few stripers. I think his best was 15" or so. Unfortunately when I went to get the pictures it seems the picture file of his striper was corrupted somehow. Mo probably caught at least a half dozen undersized stripers and I caught one or two as well.



Carl started throwing the UL for white perch and started catching fish so Mo and I put down the striper rods and began trying to help Carl fill the cooler.

We caught the usual suspects hanging around the trees near a cliff point and then drifted on to "Bikini Beach" and caught a bunch more. I know we caught at least 20 or so between that point and Bikini Beach. Then we decided to head back to Mrs. Wolf's Cove where we caught so many last week. Once again, we caught A BUNCH OF PERCH!

Not only did we catch a lot of perch in Mrs. Wolf's Cove, they seemed to all be larger than average sized, including this 11" that I caught from in front of a tree:



..forgive the creepy facial expression, the sun was right in my eyes.


Then Mo and I decided to investigate a spot upriver that a local told us about last week. It seemed like it might be a good spot to fish when the tide was high but we caught it at low tide and only managed one fish. By that time the little wind we had died down and the water turned to glass:

...but it didn't pay off, at least not on Wednesday.

With little time left we motored back to the jetties near the sandbar and stopped to catch a couple fish off some docks on the way. We caught a few more perch but then it was time to leave. We packed up and loaded the boat. I think we were all pretty tired on the way home. I just might have dozed off for a few seconds on the return trip before Mo caught me snoozing.

When we got back Carl and I washed some slime that had leaked out of the cooler off the boat carpet and left the boat in the driveway to dry. I hope it doesn't start to smell in this heat.

Carl called me later in the evening to tell me our total perch count was 70. We caught quite a few more that were spared the trip to Fairfax.

Another great trip with "Team White Perch!" I look forward to our Wednesday fishing adventures very much!
