5-15-10, Potomac River Segaciuous Six Annual Outing

I picked Jimmy up at 0530 and then we met Gary, Paulire and Gary at Gravelly Point at 0615. Unfortunately, Kevin was not able to make it down for this trip.

Fishing, sightseeing, boat fixing...you name it. But great laughs is what this is all about! My sides are still sore......this bunch is wild for certain!

We saw Thai and Curly and they were having a nice morning so I was exited at the prospects. Jimmy and Paulie were ready to roll!

And Tony wasted no time knocking everyone down to get the 1st fish....

....and the 2nd fish!

We finally had to put him on the wheel so the rest of the guys could get a fish.

We went by Curly's boat as Thai was landing a decent blue cat!

Gary was up next and picked up this monster!

What was that fish thinking?

Jimmy caught another one but somehow, we forgot to take the picture of the fish. We only have Jimmy whoopin' it up!

We managed a few more little ones and then Paulie got into the action with this channel cat....

....should have kept him, he looked good!

We had some boat trouble (as well as a few snags but I won't go into that in any detail). Gary was the resident mechanic so he kept us going all day. I seems that I have some corrosion at the battery terminals, enough to not let any current up to the starter. We had several drifts without power that got a bit hairy when we were up really close to the Ft. McNair wall. Somehow security didn't see us (or they were laughing so hard that they ignored us) and we were able to push away until Gary fixed the problem.

Once fixed, we looked up channel and started seeing a ton of boats. We thought there was a fire (saw the Harbor Police, DC Fire and the Coast Guard) but it turns out that it was the "Blessing of the Fleet". It was nice but all of the boats were staging where we fish!

Sorry for the "smudgy" pictures...it seems we got some catfish buggers in the lens.

Then Gary alerts us that a Blackhawk is directly over us and about to land at Ft. McNair. Tony took a few nice shots!

OK...the fishing was not hot for us but I would not trade this day for anything. I have known these guys since the late 80's. They are the best of the best!

Most folks (guests in our boats) think that trolling the Cannel is a piece of cake when they see it for the first time.  The person at the helm has to pay close attention all the time or you will end up shallow and hang up your gear sad .  You gotta watch the depth finder like a hawk, even if a 15+ year veteran of the WC. smile
