Herring on Moritorium now

The PRFC has placed both Blueback and Alewife River Herring on the no catch no possesion list. By the very definition it will mean that you can not use them for bait. But pound netters are allowed 50 lbs a day still with no closed season.

Here is where it gets really tricky..

On the Md tribs of the Potomac inside the PRFC markers you are allowed to fish for them from Jan 1 to June 5th. Up the tribs past the tidal mark (bridges) it is the same regs. No dip netting no sabiki rigs.

In the Va tribs inside the PRFC markers there is no season no limit and recreational netters can catch them.

So it looks as if PRFC just did this as token to ASFMC ( i hate acronyms) to appease them.

Or it is a direct attack on the growing recrational catfish industry.

Capt. Mike, to better understand your posting, if we decide to fish up near Fletcher's for Stripers, we can or cannot fish for herring to use as live bait?

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!
