This is from Potomac River Fisheries Commission:
Great news to end the week! After more than a two year deliberation, a bill for the Governor's signature has now passed in the VA General Assembly that will require ALL legacy coal ash in Virginia to moved to a safe location where as much of it as possible will be recycled, and the remainder secured in state of the art containment facilities. Most importantly, the ash will be away from sensitive and important aquatic habitats such as that on the Potomac where the 2nd most valuable spawning area for Striped Bass on The Atlantic Coast exists. Dean Naujoks and Potomac Riverkeeper Network colleagues deserve ALL the credit for this win for the fish, oysters, crabs and all those that enjoy those resources. Dean is elite in his status in that community. His experience with the Dan River spill, and his unrelenting advocacy clearly made the difference. Without him, this could never have happened. And lastly thank you to all of the VA law makers that rallied around this bi partisan legislation that everyone could embrace. This was a text book example of many folks working together to solve a Goliath problem.
A great win for the Potomac today!!
