Now that Beaverdam is closed, I'm looking for a lake that is not too far and presents an opportunity for pleasant kayaking and good fishing. I'm looking at 3 alternatives:
-- Lake Frederick (near Front Royal)
-- Fountain Head Regional Park (Occoquan Reservoir)
-- Burke Lake Park
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bruce

Fountainhead would have the best (numbers) fishing. Burke Lake has big fish but it is very pressured and can be difficult. Early and late would be better for either. Lake Frederick I have fished, but long ago.

I was just on the Shenandoah by the old Rt9 bridge. There is a park and boat ramp on Bloomery Rd about .5 mile from Rt9. I wasn't fishing but did see lots of fish and more jumping. With the lack of current it was like a lake, I was even drifting upstream at times. Near the ramp it's about 7ft deep and it gets shallower heading upstream.
I'm now seriously considering getting a WV license to fish the stretch from Rt9 to Harper's Ferry.
