So my bro and i were fishing this weekend, and we spotted a high number of fish in the 20-25 foot range of a local lake. The bottom was 37 feet. how would i begin to control my lure depth to get it in the 20-25 foot range?

A number 2 planer should put you right around that depth with a non-diving lure. I troll the bay with braided line and the planer about 50-60ft back (line to the lure another 20 ft behind the planer). I usually start to trip the planer if i come in shallower than 25ft.

What kind of lures are you using (soft plastics, weighted, unweighted etc)? I'll need to know so I can plug it into Bernoulli's equations for your answer.

No a 3$ storm swim shad will do wonders for suspended fish, count down 15 seconds and start reeling and hold on!

And Ernie 100 is cheap for a swimbait now a days, I just picked up a 316 bluegill for 165...

Nope I went out and caught two good solid fish in it that same night! A lure is meant to catch fish, you hang novelties on the wall!

For $165 it better be a pre-programmed hunter killer that filets what it catches on the way back to the boat. Ernie has the right idea about framing it (and insuring it against theft). I'd be way too nervous to go anywhere near water with it. Especially since fish like worms that crawl out of the ground at night (and are free for the plucking).
