The only way I know of is to get someplace just north of leesburg and you can see if there is steam coming from the cooling towers. There are a couple of places up towards lucketts.

I live in Virginia about a mile from the top of Catoctin Mountain (Waterford) where I get a good view of Dickerson. There are a small group (3?) of smokestacks and then a single one a little to the south of the group. I think they are all part of Dickerson. Anyway, in the winter I usually see smoke coming from 1 or 2 of the stacks. I don't know which of the stacks is most important for warming the discharge. If you need an observation on a specific day, maybe I can help out. Let me know....

We probably get more fine particulate matter from the planes going to and from Dulles than we do from Dickerson power plant. I have to give the pergola a good scrubbing a few times a year and powerwash the deck to get all that carbon off it..  I will risk it for a few hours of good fishing.

The plant in Newberg MD once used the the two red and white stacks. The new scrubber stack is the short white one and produces much less pollution than old ones did. 1/12 th as much per year as I understand. Residents of Newberg for many years died from all sorts of cancer after living there for four or more years. The mercury and other metals would blow right over there homes on a Northeast wind..

As to the warm water discharge at both plants we now see less entering the river. But that is not a bad thing as the fish adjust and the river runs more like it did before man showed up. But I guess it does mean less fish in the plume.
