I was in high school when it happened and it spurred me to apply for the Air Force Academy. I got in but due to a sports injury I was DQ'd and had to find another way to support the DoD. The event definitely shaped my life and will not be forgotten.

I was thinking on my way to work today how the weather was a lot like it is today back on 9-11. Chilly morning with bluebird skies. I was living in falls church at the time, and after work had us vacate the building and heading home, that afternoon/evening we could smell the fire from the pentagon. That musty smoke smell with aviation gas mixed in. I have been watching bits and pieces of the specials on TLC etc over the last week or so and they really bring you right back to that moment.

You are right, very similar type of day.

I was downtown at a meeting on the 11th floor when we heard about the "small" plane hitting the WTC. Then, we felt the ground shake and looked over the river at the Pentagon. I knew we were under attack and started to make mental plans on where to go and how to get away from DC. I went back to my office with some other folks (non employees) and we decided not to cross the river with the massive traffic as a bridge might be a target.

We then left and I took 5 people to 5 different destinations.

As we crossed the 14th St Bridge, the was a guy on the bridge waving a huge flag....as if to say "up yours". It's an image I won't forget.
