All I asked for Father's Day was some time on the water....wish granted!
I loaded up the kayak and headed out to the larger of the two Powhatan wildlife management lake properties. This one has an upper and lower lake both in the 30-40 acre range. I fished the upper for the first time hoping to get a feel for it. These lakes suffered a dam break several years ago and are just now getting back to being solid fisheries.
The water was brown tea colored, but had decent clarity. I drew into some lily pads to see if the fish were up, but had little success. I then decided to deep crank and quickly hooked up with two, both of which got off at the boat. Thinking the crankbait was the pattern, I tied on a shallow runner to bang it off the cover and landed two feisty punks.
I decided to call it a day, but decided to toss a jig at the loan dock on the lake, which is usually populated by catch and keep fisherman. Good thing I stopped and tossed that jig underneath it.

I'm on the west side of Richmond, so you are likely closer. Doesn't mean I wouldn't be up for a road trip!
