While I was bringing Carl's boat back from Scottsville VA early yesterday morning, Mo was enticing me to go fishing after he finished his last patient at 10:30 on Saturday. Hmmmmmm, sounded good but I still had the Texas clan as house guests. But....I got lucky as their flight was at noon and they needed to leave the house at 10 Am...same time as me!
I met Mo at 10:45 and off to Deale we went....but not before stopping at Ledo's, Mo's favorite pizza. This time we were delayed because the dough was still in the makings but the pizza was good!
We were on the water at 12:25 and out of Rockhold Creek we went (we were in his FIL's 16.5' Starcraft). When we got to the breakwater, we noticed we only had a 1' chop in the bay so out we went....smallest boat out there! Our mission was to mark some fish or find some birds working. The result: birds were lazy and all the marks we saw did not lead to any rockfish or blues. So after 75 or so minutes, we decided to do some exploring on the outside of the breakwater....and almost got stuck again!
Back inside we went and we worked the usual spot. It was a little slow and Mo got the 1st dollar!
And I took my skunk off....
But I took him to the cleaners over the next 30 minutes or so, 8-3. Being a very nice Saturday afternoon, there was a ton of boat traffic including many trollers....
The wind W wind was not helping matters and at that point, Mo announces that I must now run the remote for the trolling motor and that he wanted to go to some new water. OK....across the harbor we went.
We explored some new water but found no perch...until Mo caught a nice keeper. Then, he announces that he is hung up...... momentarily.....on this huge, fat, strong, 13" WP! The grunts and groans were funny. I got the net and in the boat came the behemoth.
I have never seen a perch that fat!
These guys just followed us around....
We continued to catch a few more there (well, Mo did 'cause I was catching very few by then). We moved to a few more new spots and caught a few more and finally went back to the breackwater where MO schooled me. Final tally was 23-17 in Mo's favor. I did everything I could to distract him. Oh....and he did the same. On 3-4 occasions, I had to remove wind knots from his braided line. It seems that I am getting good at unraveling his mess!
BTW, all the fish were caught on Ultra Lite tackle....the only way to go!
Finally, his wife called and said it was time to come home so back to the ramp we went. Off the water before 5....
Some nice Rockhold scenery.
On the way back, we noticed this antique fire truck following us.
Mo has developed a knack for catching BIG white perch. I think he is up to four 13 inchers....the last 3 have come of a yellow curly tail....he will not use anything else. Mo's 2 biggest fish.....
....I can say no more!
