Just heard from Jamie re: AP to RBP float:
Float took us 5-6 hours, but was shortened because of the heavy winds. Plan on more like 7-9 hours.
Fishing was slow, but I think due to post spawn blues. I've done this trip before and will do it again.
Paddle through the top slack water until Seneca breaks, fish from the breaks down. Hardest part to paddle is the breaks, I would suggest you take the canal on the VA side around Seneca.

That would be my suggestion also. I have done that float and it is pretty long, but beautiful below the breaks and very fishy. You can not take a wooden boat through the canal. I have an inflatable kayak, slow but usable. Charlie can use your other one And I vote for a 5:30 or 6 start.

Any time is OK for me. I like the later start since I have put the boat in at 5 on Sat. I didn't know VA had a canal up river.

Charlie is out unless we do Beaverdam. Or...he could put in with us at Algonkian and fish down to the breaks and then motor back up when it's his time to get off the water.
I am fine with 6 AM at Algonkian.
Now....for the shuttle. Any way that Jeff can leave the big red truck at the bend?
Jeff- you are welcome to use my green Ocean Prowler

We might have to wait until tonight to make the call. If we get alot of rain. The canal would be tough for a sit on top kayak. As I metioned before high water turns it into a class two.

I didn't realize that kind of water was in the mix.
As an alternative, POR gauge looks decent or maybe we should just do Beaverdam?

The Seneca Breaks are Class I-II The chute is the remnants of an old canal that is now a river channel. The first first couple of rapids in the chut are the biggest. Not a problem unless there is a strainer (log) that got hung up.
My concern is the flash flood warning for tonight. If we don't get to much rain I would perfer to river fish somewhere, but you can make the call

Jeff- my biggest concern is Bob who lives on the other side of the world.
I just saw the FF watch so what do we do?
Maybe we forgo the Algonkian to Riverbend and do Lander to POR? We can always stay local and do Kephart to Algonkian but I like it upriver better.
I will be out of pocket for a few hours but let's decide by NLT 8PM.

I actually meant heavy rain but Class II is OK......

CANCELED!
The weather forecasters scared us off the river....better safe than sorry.
We will work on planning this float (Algonkian to Riverbend) in the near future.
