FIshed this week while we still had decent weather. The tangibles seemed to be there. Water temps I think into the low 50's, somewhat clean river, slow fall.
Couldn't do anything right. Blowing through good holes, gear snafu's, poor attitude. This happens occasionally to me and I can usually snap at of it, but not this last trip. The last 2 hrs I was just aimlessly throwing moving baits when that bite wasn't there. So how do you regain focus and turn a negative into a positive?

I always remind myself that I am out on the water fishing. Huge bonus!!
After that, I just try to think about what the fish may want. Nowadays I only take 2-3 rods with me and some hand picked baits. A shoebox sized tackle box. If I win…great. If not, see ya next time on the water.

Someday's you're the fly
Someday's you're the windshield
Chalk up the day as paying your dues for the next time you're on the water
It'll only get better

I've had a lot of those days this past year or two. I think I chalk it up to my own doing. I reset by acknowledging the simple fact that fishing is about a lot of factors, the most important of those is my own state of mind. Am I out here to enjoy the day on the water and fish is the icing or am I out here to harvest because I need to eat....it's always the first!
