Cross another one off of my list!
Carl called me and convinced me to take a much needed break from doing yard work for my friend's mother. We fished the Occoquan between the dam and the Potomac River. We caught a couple crappie, some bass, and even had a yellow perch make an appearance but couldn't manage to land it.
Here's a pic of my first crappie:
Here's a pic of Carl's crappie. Much bigger than the one I caught:
Here's a couple pics of the biggest bass. I estimate it at about 3lbs. I caught it on a jig. Notice the dark markings. It looked like someone had dipped his tail in black ink.
All but the biggest bass were caught on live minnows under bobbers. We had the most success in the rocky area near the dam.

That boat is perfect for that water....now we have to get him to go main stem a bit!

Yep, on the Kistler Magnesium flipping stick, my "go-to" rod for jigs and frogs.
I'm going to try to get Carl to go fishing for snakeheads near Mt. Vernon sometime next week. He'd like to have one mounted and I think it would make a fantastic fish to mount. I've seen him with the ultralights and light line, now it's time to see him with a heavy rod and heavy braid with a frog on the end of it!

btw, Carl: I think we should get my friend Thai to help us out with the snakeheads. He has been excellent at putting me on them.
