10-12-09, Potomac River (DC) report

Curly and I met Bob Morgan (Osprey) at Gravely Point at 7 AM to see if we could get a rockfish for my mom. It was chilly (49 degrees, slightly overcast with a gentle NE breeze) but we were more than ready with a nice arsenal. We started at the mouth of of the channel as we always do....

Bob hooked up 1st with this undersized striper.....

....which we believe is the smallest striper ever caught while trolling the WC! But it took the skunk off so now it was time to get serious. He got the next hit too and brought in this little guy....

Hey....they are fish and can only get bigger from here! Sure enough, Curly gets on and he lands a nice one that went 15"!

Bob's hot hand continued and another 15" striper was landed!

Now it's time for the big boys....a few minutes later, both Bob and Curly are on....

....and they land a nice double! Here is Bob's 20.5" walleye....

...and Curly's 20.5" striper!

Wait....I need to get one! We had a double rod go down and I was allowed to reel one in,  a decent channel cat, along with Curly's 22.5" striper!

All of this happened during the last 1/3 of the falling tide. After that.....zip! So we went to Bolling to try our luck and had the same results....zip.

Now, it was time to go....maybe. Curly and Bob came up with the idea to throw some lures at the Alexandria power plant outflow. Cool....but we did not have the proper lures and/or equipment so we improvised. While we didn't catch anything nice, these two guys came aboard.

I think we need to do a little more investigation in the future. It was great fishing with these two salts, they know what they are doing. I just sat back and watched....great fun!

That's our 2nd one, both in October I think but it's all by accident.

Had it for dinner last night as the starter...then had striper to follow.
