7-7-09, Cedar

Hit the pond for an hour at 7 AM (normally, I would be on the road to work).

I caught 5 keeper punks (not worthy of pictures) on wacky worms and short flukes. They needed to be agitated a bit this morning.

I have a long day of conference calls so I may take some of them while I fish.

More later!

I guess a long career of working hard offers up such perks! Tight lines!

Re: 7-7-09, Cedar

I have 2 conference calls today:

1. 9:15 to 1 PM (better than being in CT)
2. 3-5 PM

No way I am going to take these at the office.

I went out a few minutes ago and it is VERY windy. I had 3 bites, most likely blue gills.

Caught one little punk around 5:15 on a Lucky Craft Live Pointer ($20 bait!). I was given this bait by someone whom I bought a reel from and had some issues with shipping.

Re: 7-7-09, Cedar

well it was good to see The Big E on his regular route at cedar.

i was a little fried.
went out at leesylvania this a.m. and fished until 2pm

i got three nice fish , all b/t 2.5 to 3.0, throwing a black/blue P&J combo in the grass.
those tidal bass are strong, and when they bite it is fish on!

i scratched out a few more dinks, and really had my bass pro buddy burned up until he hit a 4.0 on a frog in the salad.

naturally i had to stop at cedar on the way home.

with the good wind on i am thinking suspended open water fish.
i swim the same jig up high and get hooked up on a regular cedar type bass

i work on around, lobbing out to the rocks w/o success.
havnt gotten a good drop bite for several days, which is logical w/ the wind ( to me at least ), but i play it anyway for the sake of completeness.

on to the next hub- nothing holding shallow- water very clear in cedar lately- i can see hard bottom in many areas, which is unusual

i rip some grass anyway, yo-yo the pads- nada

i throw off the point at the 1st bubbler for a while: swimming high, low, dropping hopping twitching, trying to get some clues- finally i get a good wack from a solid 2.o up high.

with renewed zeal i rework the area and bag another fair keeper in the same manner.

the cove is a wet desert again.
no wind on it , no current, deep but seemingly empty water along the return edge.

i work it anyway, but my pessimism is validated

there may have been fish there, i gave it a fair play, briefly, and moved on.

the return shore to ernies seems to hold windy bass.

as the cove opens back to the next bubbler, a lot of fish have been taken lately on wacky and fluke presentations.  ( not by me, However )

i pick up two  more semi keepers swimming high, then draw empty frames all the way to the ernie zone.

i fan on ernies corner, and notice again some naked bottom

i go  fishless all the way to the back storm drain, then get a couple   with short casts on the return to the main drain.

i am done, and head for home

Fried.....you looked like a lobster. I thought you had been at the beach!

I like the fact that you fished after a day of fishing!

That bottom you see is the result of the bacteria that Curly throws in the lake. It eats up all the dead matter...pretty cool. There are millions of snails along the shore. I saw two bass stalking a couple of them....maybe they were getting ready to shed. I may start throwing a snail bait.

Me neither but they eat crawdads....a snail has a hard shell but they do shed it at which time they are soft. I was half kidding when I said I would get a snail bait but it would be interesting to know if they in fact do eat 'em.
