9-14-07, Walleye fishing (DC waters) report

Curly and I decided to do a little DC fishing today and we put in at Gravely Point 0650 and we had lines in the water in the Washington Channel about 8 minutes later.

Our target today was the elusive walleye! As we hunted around for them, we kept catching stripers and blue cats.....more on that later! It's the walleye that we were after! About 3 hours into the day, one of the rods went down, I threw an elbow and beat Curly to it! I could not tell what was on the line and in came this nice walleye....

.....the 1st one that I have ever caught and the 1st one ever in my boat (19 incher)! Toothy son of a gun!!

OK....I need to fess up! While that is a real walleye, we were striper fishing as we normally do in the Washington Channel, NOT walleye fishing. I have NO clue what that guy was doing in that water....but we caught him! We did catch 7 stripers, including this one on an umbrella rig (Curly is practicing for the tourney).

We also caught 5 blue cats but none were over 4 pounds!

Lots of helicopter traffic today.....

.....Dan, we were looking for you!!

Temps around 80, SE winds of 8-12 kts, a little overcast....perfect fishing day!

Oh....it's my anniversary today and I got to fish (flowers were deliverd while I was on the water).....we will celabrate tomorrow!!

The man decided he wanted to fly on Saturday, instead. Grrr...

Man it was windy in DC! I guess I didn't really miss out since I wouldn't have gone out anyway.

Nice fish by the way. Its been a looooong time since I hooked into a walleye back in PA.
