The wife and I took a short vacation down into the mountains and we stayed near Sherando Lake National Park http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/gwj/gp/recreati … ando_lake/
I brought a variety of lures, well, as many as I could fit into my backpack. I fished three evenings, all at The Sherando Park Upper Lake. Both lakes are stocked with bass, crappie, brim, and trout. I saw many trout jumping and heard a story of a girl catching one that went about 19.5 inches.
The first evening, I walked up about 100 stairs only to have to walk down 100 stairs to get to the lake. From the top of the stairs, the view was quite nice:
As for the fishing on the first day, I saw a bunch of bass on beds, and I even spooked a nice 5-6lb pig out from under a tree. Unfortunately, after exploring the entire lake, I went home without a caught fish.
On day two, recognizing the spawning pattern, I slowed my presentation, finessed it up a bit, and was able to land two nice keepers; a 2lber and a 1lb 9oz bass.
On day three, I doubled my output yet again landing 4 bass, with three of them being keeper size. Here are a couple more pics...
