I woke up at 6 AM with anticipation to try the north side of the Pirate's Cove bridge. I looked out the window and there were fireworks going off.....a huge lightning storm! So back to bed I went. At around 9 AM, things let up so I started my way to the sound.
Now.....for the fishing. I got on the water at around 9:45 AM and paddled about 1/4 mile to the prospective fishing grounds. There was plenty of wind and heat. Most of my fishing was along the bulkheads with some great houses and condos in the background. I was using a Gulp shrimp with a clicking float on my 6' St. Croix rod with the Okuma Epixor reel.
The 1st fish I caught was the best for the day.....a 20"+ Redfish! This one had to go more than 5lbs and he took line during the fight. Great experience catching this one in the yak!
Later, I landed a smaller one and then hooked in to another nice one that got loose at the yak. Didn't get him in but it was a nice battle.
I did manage catch a few croaker.....by the way, what was he thinking?
.....and a flounder as well.
The wind prevented me from using my 6wt much but I threw it a few times but no takers.
I would say that the fishing was bit slow....but NO complaints! I called it a day at 1PM when the temps got near 3 digits again.
