October

Saved a duck today!

I was out back picking Thai chilies and a lady came by and said her daughter (on other side of the lake) had her eye on a duck that appeared to have a lure in it's beak. I took some fishing tools over to where the young lady was. The duck was on the shoreline but absolutely did not want to get caught. Even when I talked nice to it.

Then I remembered that I had my new net in the limo so I called to Debbie to get it for me.

My 1st attempt failed because the duck saw the net. He went in hiding behind some reeds. The good thing was that now, he could not see me. The bad thing was that the greenery was thick. But I saw an opening and got the net over the duck.  Slowly, I dragged it back to where we could work on it. I asked the young lady to hold the neck right below the head and I started the surgery procedure. First, I cut the treble off (it had gone through both sides of the beak, shutting it's mouth. Once the hook was free, I took the hemostat out and worked the barbed part of the hook out. The beak looked good.

We let the duck free and he stayed around for a few moments. He crowned and then pruned himself. I think he was happy. So was the young lady!

Excellent teamwork.

Re: October

When they drained the lake a couple dozen years ago, I created a couple of rock piles which are affectionately know as "lure eaters". These rock piles also attract turtles. Today, I lost 2 lures to the lure eater and 2 lures to turtle bite offs.

After losing a nice fish (never saw it), I did manage to catch 2 nice ones!

They were in the 15" range. Nice tug on the ML rod.

And a nice stogie was had. An Oliva V Series Malanio torpedo.

Re: October

I enjoyed a nice Oliva V Melanio while chatting with Bob at the BRHS fishing tourney yesterday so I thought I would try it again today.

The stogie was great but the catching was not so great. mad I had one little runt take a swipe at my bait during my 45 minute session.

Anyway, here is a link to yesterday's festivities.

Re: October

Great job on saving that duck! Feels so good to help out wildlife in need.

We grew some Thai chilis this year too, along with ghost peppers and Carolina reapers. 1/4 of a ghost in a whole batch of shrimp pasta was too much heat for me so I just give the rest away lol. I'm too scared to even try the reapers.

Re: October

I renumber once, at the beach, I was cutting up a Ghost into little pieces. Everyone ran out of the house and I hadn't even cooked yet.
