3-17-23, "O"

Last year, a day earlier, we caught our 1st shad at the "O". Rumors had it that a few shad had been caught already so Bob and I decided to give it a shot!

The weather was perfect for a winter day as it was in the low 50's when we got to the ramp. The weatherman had promised that it would reach the low 60s later .

While at the ramp, we ran into Capt. Rich in his RockProof and my friend Pete who was launching an inflatable kayak. Pete was using the long stick.

We started up high but got no bites so I quickly changed gears and went to the middle.

I scored 1st using a double rig composed of a teeny tanish color tube (bottom) and a green crappie jig up the line a bit.

Not too much later, I scored again.

Most of the fish we caught were well fed 15"ers!

I had Bob down 4-0 when he got his 1st!

We did get sprinkled on (not forecasted ) and the temps stayed in the low 50's (not forecasted) all morning. We stayed chilly but the fishing was good enough to keep us interested until lunch time.

The fishing was not hot but we managed 23 for our outing, 17 for me. And BTW, anytime I can beat Bob...it's a good day!

Capt. Rich struggled to catch a few and Pete did not get any. There was another boat with some newbies to the "O" and after we talked to them at the ramp, they told us they caught 8 and were elated!

Some more of the catches...

Of course, we hit Brickmakers for lunch and it did not disappoint!

Re: 3-17-23, "O"

A friend fished Fletcher's on the same day and they only got a couple shad for their efforts. I think the bite will slow a bit with these 2 days of chillier weather but once they start to migrate in looking for hanky panky...they just keep on coming in!
