3-4-23, LKA

Yep...Lake Anna! The hot side!

A few weeks back, Danny Grulke called me and told me he could get access to the hot side of LKA and if I wanted to go. I told him yes under the strict condition that if it was cold and rainy, it was a no go! Forgot to add about the wind! mad

It was windy when we got there and when we left but we still managed to fish and catch some. On the ride down, the digital lady in the limo kept saying weather alerts that there were Gale Warnings nearby! Sheesh!

Dan just sold his boat to help fun his kids college so he was more than itching to go!

We each caught a couple of runts that actuality came off the hook as were were swinging them in. Dan knew that I always take a 1st fish pic, I wonder if that motivated him to lose it. Me, I just horsed it too much

Anyway, it was tough to stay out of the wind. It seemed to keep changing directions! Annoying is what it was!

Dan was throwing a Carolina Rig with a lizard and he kept getting bites. and then, he started catching some!

When we started, the water temp was 56-57dF. Then we found some 63dF water.

Dan caught a couple more runts.

We were getting pushed around like crazy and it was hard to hold position much less feel the bite. We finally gave up (kinda) and decided to head back to the ramp. Maybe we could make a few casts there. I was tired as it was after 2pm and the wind just whips you down!

Dan was throwing a 40+ year old Bagley crankbait at this time. I was throwing a fluke. I said, "I'm throwing over there"  and Dan said, "OK, I'll throw thisaway". Then bam! he gets walloped and immediately calls for the net.

This was a very skinny 4 pounder, should have been fatter!

After that, I said, "we're done" and we headed back to NoVA.  We were both satisfied that we gave it our best shot despite the Gale Force winds!

The limo looks good backing down...

And yes, the traffic coming back SUCKED!!!!!

For Dan, this was a much needed break. He was like a little kid all day despite the wind!

Did I mention that it was windy? lol

For me, it was just cool to see him enjoy himself like he did. And that lunker at the end was the icing on the cake! Great day out on the water!

Good report.  You were brave or crazy, not saying which.  At least you caught some.  That old Bagley catch is cool!

Dan was a motivated fisherman! big_smile He badly needed to get a line whet. There were plenty of coves to hide until the wind changed directions. The huge bow on the line was the biggest PIA. And keeping the boat in position took some work but we got to fish some and he got to catch some.

Re: 3-4-23, LKA

Great report Ernie!  I like the limo setup!  I really like the warm side there and miss it since selling my house.  The water is really, really nice and so many little coves to find shelter.  Not like the Potomac where it's just wide open and shallow along the edges.  I'm glad you guys were able to get some fish....the winds were nuts and I have no idea how you managed.  My plan is to either go back down full time to LKA or find someting similar on the river down along the northern neck in about 5-8 years.  Need to prep for my forever home and want to wake up to the water view and dock!
