I made a drive and launched a little further up due to forecasted wind. I was hoping the big bump in river level would get the big ones pushed into predictable areas. I got to my first spot and within 5 minutes I got a hit on a tube. Nice fight and I netted this chunky 18.75"er. It did not want to lay still and it spined me pretty good. I saw blood and knew it was not from the fish and it was my thumb. It took a while for me to get it to stop.
It was a while before I got another bite. This time it was on the ned. I was fighting the fish and it surfaced and shook it's head and came off. It was a little smaller than the first one. Water was swirly mix of green and brown. Lots of debris and some trees to keep an eye on. I did catch a 15.5"er on the ned.
The wind picked up and I decided to move to the creek. I ate my lunch and drifted for a bit. Tried a chatterbait, but nada. After I got to the creek, the water was clean. I tried a 2.75" tube and got a bite. This little guy was hungry.
I was happy to see a sunfish as they have become rare. I tried up the creek and finally got this LM on a ned. Heard some owls and saw 2 deer up there.
Talked to two guys who were coming up the creek. Nice guys and they headed up as I was floating back down. Closer to the mouth. I got into a rat pack of little LM (10-12 inches). I caught 5 in that one spot. The last one I thought I got bit but was snagged. I went up and had to usw the rod tip to dislodge the lure. When I brought up my rod, there was a little LM on the lure. Too funny. I tried the little tube in spots near wood and caught 2 more small LM, for a total of 8 LM.
The wind died down a little and I ran back out in the river, but my anchor would not hold and the wind was steady. I was off the water before 3pm. Nice day on the water.
