Front Royal Opening Gun Season

So the nephews and I went out on a very very cold morning off 522 at the family property and it did not dissapoint.  My previous outings during archery were great and although I didn't get anything, it was a sign of things to come.
We ended up with a couple of 8 and 9 point bucks and a hefty button buck.  All before 10 am.  Our new butchering techniques make life really simple without even field dressing and even was able to pluck the oysters from the topside.  Bones and antlers left for the rest of nature to feed and sure enough the foxes and raccoons were out!  Sorry no pics this time.  Just on a mission to fill the freezers.

Re: Front Royal Opening Gun Season

Thanks guys.  I've been working hard to teach the nephews about being responsible hunters and develop respect for the animals and not their horns.  We try not to waste anything, but we just don't have recipes to cook horns! lol  Although when I lived in PA, my Mennonite friends would take the deer legs and strip them clean and make a white bone soup with them and it was awesome.  They also pickled the hearts too.  I'm not there yet. hahahaha

The older I get the less I'm eating internal organs

I believe it's a good thing you're not at eating the heart

I still like scrapple and head cheese LOL

Yeah, I love scrapple and head cheese, but that's like once every year lately for me too.
