When he took off, he was after something in the tall grass. Don’t think he got it.

According to the ‘peep, it’s a red shouldered hawk. Big bird!

Nice. We have one that swoops down on exepecting squirrels or chipmunks. There's a couple red tails over by the boat ramp too. They hunt the area around the sculls. Very cool raptors

This time, he was across the lake.

Cool! Were you just sitting out on your deck with a glass of whiskey, stogie, and camera in hand?

I happened to see him from the kitchen window and quickly got my DLSR camera. Took a bunch of shots form the deck.

Thanks...unfortunately, there was no sun to bring out the colors. I was using a new lens (new to me) which helped get the close ups.

It looked like a stand off this morning!
But the hawk never attacked, just flew away after a few minutes.

Pest Now came by today to check on our mouse bait boxes. They were clear of activity...he was happy. But I told him the real winner was this guy.
The tree in the background is a Kwanzan Cherry, just like the cherry blossom trees in DC. I bought that tree for $175 back in 1994, when we moved in. It was listed at $400 but it was end of season thus a good price. It has grown up to be quite the attraction in the back of my house...for 7-10 days each year.
