11-17-21, LKA

Curly and I were on the water shortly after 8a. It was a brisk 38df out when we started and it got really cold when he got up and running to the fishing grounds.

I need to back up and thank him for a very nice breakfast. His situation on the lake is as good as it gets. He has great views of the lake plus the mountains in the background.

The boat is on a covered lift and McGuyver, I mean Curly, has set up some cool things on his dock. Running water of a pump, cleaning station, bait tank…you name it!

They call this the "ghetto".

Anyway, after looking around for a bit we went downriver but could not jig anything up. So, out come the trolling rods and in short order, we had a short double.

We went back to jigging and curly gets a white perch…

…and the a catfish.

We’ll, we have lots of flavors in the boat now.

Chasing birds is the name of the game but a close eye on the electronics is needed as well. Plus, Curly has a trick that he brings to the boat. if it's slow...he feeds the birds some popcorn! lol

Curly started schooling me and caught a few more…

…including this nice 10+” perch!

Now it was time for lunch…home made sammies.

It's peaceful on the lake at this time of year.

We followed some birds into a cove and Curly gets hammered and has a nice fight on his hands. In the meantime, I decided to throw my Light rod and a short wiper nails me and takes me for a ride under the boat. I thought it was gonna break my rod.

We both landed our fish.

Curly continues to take me to school and ends up with a few more.

Tally for today was 3 keepers with 7-8 throwbacks. We never saw a big school nor did we have breaking fish. The ones we got were hunted down by Curly for sure.

While chilly in the morning, it was a beautiful day out.

I will say this (and I have known this for 25+ years), there is no quit in Curly. We had some long dry spells and he was always positive about finding some. It is never easy at Anna. Never! But he stayed at it and we had a good day after all.

But it does not end there.

We visited with some neighbors and now I am friends with them. It’s just like I’ve lived in the same ‘hood. Curly and Ellen have a really good situation at the lake. Great neighbors.

I was riding his slip mate about still having zip ties on his rod/reel set ups. When we got back today, he had snipped them off.

Another neighbor came by and a great bourbon conversation ensued.

Then, we went out for a terrific sushi dinner and on the way back, we stopped off at Frank’s house. Curly had told me that I might know him since he was Cuban and grew up in Falls Church, where I did. Sure…all Cubans know each other.

We’ll, the moment I walk in, Frank says, “ are you Turi’s brother”? Of course I am and we picked up where we left off 45 years ago. It was uncanny. Needless to say, we did a lot of catching up in a short period of time.

Great ending to a great day!

Oh…we had a nearly full moon too!

Ernie,
Most people on this forum give a fishing report. But you tell a story. Always great to read your posts.

Just to clarify, the ghetto is 5 miles downlake from me.  I do not live in the "ghetto" lol

The "ghetto" homes probably cost @$1MM. They are just tightly bunched unlike the rest of the homes around the lake.

I forgot to add a note about the sirens. Holy cow, the lake sirens came on around 10a. They are loud. So loud that I jumped out of the seat when they came on. Curly says, "well, it's a practice or a nuclear meltdown". They went on for a bit...ear piercing!
