Upper Potomac 11/17/21

I decided to hit the window between the cold and the wind. Hit the water around 9am and the water color was perfect.  Clear, but a dark green tint in the deeper sections.  I decided to hit a nearby ledge first.  There was a good amount of particulate  and floating sediment, moss stuff.  I tried a jerkbait (half-heartedly), a ned, a tube and a small swimbait.  After a while, I decided to run upriver.  Water temp was just over 45 and the level was over 2 feet at POR.

The sun came out and it was a nice ride upriver.  Not too many leaves in the middle to the MD side.  I made it to the rocky area and was happy to see a brownish tanin stain in that area.  I tossed a coppertreuse ned and got bit on about the third cast.  It was a feisty smallie about 16 inches.

I caught a couple more that were smaller and then caught a chunk swimming the little swimbait.

I caught 5 before heading upriver to check another spot.  It was too clear and had a lot of leaves, so I floated out of that area and noticed more stained water and some eddies behind rocks in deeper water.  I tried the big one and felt like aI had a hit on the ned, then followed up with a tube.  Nothing hit, but I noticed a swirl eddy close and pitched the tube in.  I hooked a nice fat 16.25"er.

That was number 6 caught.  I had at least 2 other bites along the way.  I ran back to the original area.  I started above the area and was going to float to it, but the wind kept me from drifting down.  I used the TM to position and started fishing the ned above the rocky area and hooked a nice 15.5"er.

All the fish were well fed.  I caught one more, brining my total to 8.  I had a nice hit and then broke off a tube in that area before finally deciding to head back about 3:30pm.  I was off the water by 4pm.

The fish were eating and the water temp never reached 50 degrees.  Tomorrow will probably be good, but the forecasted winds may be an issue.  Great Fall day on the river with no other boats seen.

Good work. I was hoping you were gonna go. I had seen a video of some fellas catching some up river from Edward’s Ferry a couple of days ago. They were catching a few. Good timing and good catching.

Time to go fishin' again!
