Upper Potomac 10/11/21

I got out early and was hoping for a topwater bite early.  I forgot about the duck hunters and had to wait to get to my starting spot.  I tried a small popper and a Whopper Plopper.  I got one one the plopper, but was unable to keep it buttoned.  It was not too big.  I also has something swipe at a buzzbait earlier, kind of half-hearted.  After working that spot a for a while, I ran up to my next spot.  The water was really pretty clear and I got not bites there, so I finally made a run upriver a bit.

I got my first fish on the BPS one minus.  It was not very big, so no pic.  I ran up to a rocky area and drifted a tube after making some casts with other baits.  It got some hits, but no hookups.  The wind had picked up a bit and I used that as a way to my benefit.  I took a tip from T and tried a firetiger Cordell Big-O.  I hooked a 14"er.

Then, I anchored to eat my lunch and cast the crankbait toward the main channel where there were scattered rocks and a swifter current.  I hooked a strong 15.75" smallie that gave a good fight and a couple jumps.  It had cool stripes too.

After getting that fish unhooked, I cast out to the same area and hooked another nice smallie that was 15.25" and chunky.

I was psyched about catching those 2 fish back to back.  I finally ate my sandwich.  I tried some more, but no bites and then the wind died down.  It really was my favorite weather for fishing.  Cool, but not cold and heavy clouds almost all day.

After lunch, I drifted and ended up catching a 13" smallie on a tube.  The fish splashed the camera lens, so the picture is messed up.

I floated after that and tried several lures, including in-lines, crankbaits, swim bait, Whopper Plopper and tube.  The water was clearer and the wind  vaied, but I could not get another bite.  I was off the water by 3:00pm, after waiting my turn at the ramp.  I forgot it was a Holiday, but not too many boats were out.

Finished with 5 and I was happy after the tough week I had last week.
