9-29-21, Severn River

"Look! Another nice one!"  If I heard that once today, I heard it 25+ times!!

Knowing that George was on the IL, I took him over to the back end of the Severn where there is a lot of wind protection so we put in at Smith's Marina.

The tide was still low due to the N winds...which were up a little more than predicted but manageable.

It was a beautiful morning, about 60df when we splashed the boat.

I decided to hit Maynadier Creek first and it took no time for George to take the skunk off...

...followed by the 1st double of many!

Theses were all solid fish!

We kept picking them off almost every place we went!

As we headed out of the creek, we stopped at a known perch hole and caught a few plus a bonus!

Around 10a, with the tide trying to come in (hardly did), we headed over to Brewer Pond. It was a bumpy ride due to the wind but we got there dry. Instantly, George fell in love with the place 'cause we started catching all the way in the back and never stopped catching.

I got a nice 11"er!

And George kept catching!

Lots of slabs...many over 10" and several over 11"!

Now...it was lunch time.

Yesterday, George had asked me if there was a place nearby to have lunch and I didn't know of any so he said he would make a couple of Dagwoods.

When I told Debbie that George was making a Dagwood, she asked me if that was the only reason I liked fishing with George. lol When I told George this, he laughed so hard it hurt his back.

Yep, fishing with George is fun. But eating George's famous Dagwood sammies is FUNNER!!

After we couldn't move from the big Dagwoods (had to weigh close to a pound) we started catching again...

That one went 11.75"...George's best.

I hooked into a really nice one and knew I needed the net which was not close. I asked George for help but he was busy catching another nice one. By the time he was able to come over, I lost the fish. I have no clue about the size but it may have given Bob a run for his money for the SRRKC perch tourney. George could not believe the size of the beast!

As usual, George likes to catch many species and caught the only striper.

We just kept catching some nice fish!

We didn't count fish but it was a lot. I bet we didn't catch 10 fish under 8". Lots of fatsos and slabs in the mix today. I think George was exited as much as Leon was on his 1st trip to the Wicomico!

George was giggling all day (and not from his back pain meds) and when I told him we should go (try to beat the traffic) he just said, "I'm satisfied, this was a great day!"

What a way to end the perch season!!

Big fish.  Big Numbers.  Big Dagwood.  What could be better?

Sad for Ernie on his heartbreak moment.  I'm sure that perch will haunt him for a while.  It was a beast

Weather was better than anything one could ask for.  Bit cool in the morning.  Not to hot the rest of the day.

I have to thank Ernie for not letting me lift anything heavier than a $20 bill.  Pulled a back muscle on Sunday and still moving slowly

I felt like a wounded hero on the water

Got home and my wife asked me if we had any leftovers.  I said heck no.

Well done gentlemen.  Wish I could have made this trip but I'm spending time with the wife in the motorhome.  Perch are now one of my favorite fish to catch.

We’ll go next year but you have to convince George to make you a Dagwood.

Should be small mouth because you're sleeping right next to a good spot

Way to go, guys!  That is a terrific day.  Those sandwiches are obese!  I am happy to see that there were still some perch and you guys got into them good.

Take care of that back, George!

George did just fine fishing yesterday. He was a good patient. I just made sure he didn’t do anything silly to mess with the pulled muscle….except reeling in fat perch!
