9-27-21, Chesapeake Beach

Bob and I were hoping to get the tail end of the perch run at Chesapeake Beach today. Well...we were at the bitter end of the tail as we (Bob) only caught 3 perch.

All told, we visited 6-7 honey holes but only two of them "produced"...if that's what you want to call it.

When we launched, it was in the high 50's and we had a bit of SW wind and it shifted to SE. Me no like.

We started at the jetty and Bob got a lizard and a perch.

But that was it!

Bob noticed some birds working on the other side of the jetty and it was game on with the stripers...on UL tackle!

All of them were between 16" and 19.5"...a few of them just shy of 19". We did keep two that were just over the mark.

I caught two small flounder...

...and Bob caught another lizard.

Had it not been for this school of nice shallow water stripers feeding on peanut bunker, we would have been really disappointed in the day. But we weren't!

I forgot to add that when we were getting close to the end of the jetty on the 1st drift, there were a ton of gulls just hanging around the jetty. One looked like an eagle and I mentioned it to Bob. Sure enough, he takes off and it’s an eagle. The 1st of 4 we saw today.

Sure glad the stripers wanted to play, made a tough day bearable. We found some perch last week way up the Severn, but they've been hard to find on our bay spots. Almost pickerel time.

Looks like lots of fun even if it wasn't the target species.

Looks like you guys broke out the fleece

Double stripers - how cool!  Especially on light tackle.

Good thing you found them
