Bev and I started with breakfast at The Filling Co....it was good, as always.

We got on the river shortly before 7a and we were greeted with a ton of fog but very nice temps.









On his 1st cast, he got 3 nips on the WP but was not able to get tight. We floated for almost another hour and the only thing we had to show for it was me getting a bite. That was it.

I looked at him and said, "I think this is gonna be a tough day.

My original plan was to fish close by bu I mentioned to Bev if he minded running up past Harrison Island. He said, "let's go!" as he loves fishing up there. So...we made a 10+ mile run and found  a nice shaded eddy where we camped out for a bit... and took the skunk off!



And then I got slammed. Some nice pull but I knew it wasn't a smallie.



OK...boat skunk off and my skunk off. Now it was Bev's turn with a 12'5"er.



I then caught a nice 13"er!



And then...a story.

Bev hooks up in the shade and the fight ensues. The pole is bent in half and I see this freight train going right for the boat. I try to tell Bev (just not enough time to process) to try to move it right but the fish goes under the boat and cut the braid. Without doubt, this would be (well, would have been) Bev's biggest smallie yet. I saw it. It was nice but no telling how big. All I know is that Bev's face went blank. He will dream about it tonight as it was a really quality fish.

Well, he was disappointed for sure but he kept trying. Once thing Bev does is listen well. He was hipping his targets (which is why he likes it up there) and connected again.



It was now around 11a and it was getting really hot. Earlier, it was nice as we had a slight breeze and lower humidity. But now, we had no wind and high humidity.

I said that we should just try the fast water down the middle but we probably would not get any because the sun was high. Sure enough, he connects with a 10"er or so and we called it a day.

We each caught 3 smallies and I also had the kittie.

The ride back was great as it cooled us off but once we trailered the boat and got on the parking lot...it was blazing.

But, we had a prize at the end of the rainbow as we were going to Cubasi for lunch.

Yes, it was good!



We were both satisfied with the day. Water temps started at near 83df and ended close to 86df. Air temp was...HOT!
